Guided Reading
Is there a text you need help cracking?
I’ve read broadly and deeply in both the contemporary philosophical canon and the Western canon more broadly. I can help you comprehend and analyze nearly any text, philosophical or otherwise. You’ll also come away with an understanding of why people might disagree with a given text, and how to weigh those disagreements. Whether it’s for a course or just personal enrichment, I’m ready to help.
Patiently reading a text, and learning how to get inside of an unfamiliar and complex point of view, is something I have a natural gift and passion for. It’s also a skill I honed intensively over a decade and a half at Yale and Princeton. I’ll help you find the conceptual and dialectical joints of a text, relating an author’s deep assumptions and motivations to the terminological and organizational choices of the text.
My greatest area of expertise is in Immanuel Kant’s philosophy. I’m also especially well-equipped to assist in reading Kierkegaard and the history of modern physics from Galileo to Einstein. However, I’m excited to assist with any text you want an outside opinion on.
To get started, just set up a phone consultation so I can learn about what you’re looking for and how I might be able to help.
